Growth

When a choice is given, people live and work under the assumption that what they believe about a given issue or situation is correct, until they are presented with convincing information which indicates that their previous assumption is altogether incorrect or at least distorted.

Those persons whose conscience or belief system is seared will typically never change their stance even when presented with the facts or truth about a given issue or situation. They then become much like the animal kingdom, creatures of habit only.

But for the most part, people who are allowed intellectual liberty will align their understanding with the facts or truth once they have basic core knowledge of the same.

This is why as humankind we have the God given ability to be continually learning. This built in mechanism is at the center of our desire of continual growth as a person.
