James 1:1-8 Wisdom for tough times.
Believers can face difficulties when they understand the positive effect difficulties produce in them.
The word “temptations” describes the difficulties that test people, trials that come from persecution or inner struggles.
Trials can develop a spiritual stamina in us that strengthens our faith so we can stand in any circumstance.
Trials help believers recognize their dependence on God.
The wisdom that God give is more “know how” than “know why” in nature. It is much more likely that God will teach us how to handle a trial than tell us why the trial has come. God is willing to give wisdom to all who ask.
Verse 6 James described a person who doesn’t not trust God as “a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed” One moment the person expresses faith in God and the next moment he acts in unbelief.
Verse 7 He further described this man as being “unstable in all his ways” he is “double minded” this pictures a person trying to face two directions at the same time. Indecisiveness results in ineffectiveness in his life.
